Ron is a native Californian, raised entirely in Solano County. His humble wine beginnings with his family usually involved a jug of California Burgundy or White Zinfandel, both refrigerated. His future destiny was sealed in 1989 after adventuring with friends on a day of wine tasting. Ron’s palate had never enjoyed wine so immensely. From that point forward much of Ron’s spare time was spent visiting wineries and learning more. Fortunately Ron married well and shared this hobby with his adoring bride.
Having traveled extensively throughout the great wine capitals of Europe for 20 years and after retirement from the law enforcement field it was time for a new journey. Now a 20 year hobby became a new career.
Equipped with a Certified Sommelier Program Certificate from the renowned Professional Culinary Institute an apprenticeship under Wine Director Scott Tracy and Sommelier Roland Micu at the Michelin starred La Toque Restaurant of Napa California followed the formal school training. Opportunity knocked for another apprenticeship shortly thereafter with ‘the first Movie Festival Sommelier’ Chris Sawyer at Sonoma Valley California’s Carneros Bistro.
In addition to enjoying service to the Vezer Family Vineyard, Ron spends Tuesday evenings teaching his passion to other oenophiles. Ron’s desire to share his passion is due in great part to the mentoring from Sommelier John Lancaster of Boulevards Restaurant, Master Sommelier Emily Wines of the Fifth Floor Restaurant (both in San Francisco), Master Sommeliers Jesse Becker and Geoff Kruth.
